Starting XI v Switzerland (home).

Recommended Posts

I've resisted the temptation to go for my revolutionary 5-5-1 formation. It was obviously a step too far for the traditionalists on here.

McGovern

McLaughlin McAuley J. Evans Brunt

Norwood Davis Saville**

Ward* Dallas

Washington

* If he's fit enough. If not Magennis plays up front, Washington moves to the right.

** Corry is warming the bench in League 1. George is a Championship regular.

Corry played 90 minutes yesterday.

I like that. If Mcnair had have more game time I'd have had him on instead of either Norwood or Saville for an extra bit of cover in front of the back 4.

I would think itll be 5-4-1. Michael really seems to like Big Josh, so would expect him to play wide on the right again. Wasington will start up front. The rest of the team will be pretty much as expected. McGovern in goal. Conor, J Evans, Big G and Brunt across the back. C Evans in front with Davis and Norwood in front. Dallas probably get nod on left.

Ward and Lafferty make impact from bench.

I dont understand the 5-4-1 or 3-5-2 calls we look a lot poorer when plays either of these I just want a flat back four!!

Agreed. Mine above was a typo, should have said 4-5-1.

McNair starting today i would have him in for Corry, Ward would love to start but he has'nt had enuf game time

we realy need to score at home and have something to defend, so 2 strikers upfront can't decide on Lafferty or Washington with Magennis

Think MON will have other ideas and play one striker

McGovern

McLaughlin
Evans
McAuley
Brunt

Davis
Norwood
McNair

Dallas

Magennis
Lafferty/Washington

So Ward hasn't had enough game time, but Paddy has? :scratch_one-s_head:

Isn't Ward more likely to score/create than McNair?

so would you stick with Corry? Ward best used as an impact sub for 20 or 30 mins, don't think we could get a full 45 mins from him

You consider game time to be important - fair point.

But you'd have McNair in ahead of Corry, despite the latter having had much more game time this season, inc. with NI?

I'd leave it to Michael, actually ;) , but if it were down to me, I'd be inclined to stick with the players who've brought us this far (at least for the first game), unless someone outside the regulars makes a compelling case to be parachuted in.

You might consider Saville has done so (unsure myself), but I can't believe McNair has done enough just yet.

But what the hell do I know? :sarcastic:

Main decisions are:

C Evans or Saville

3 From Lafferty, Magennis, Dallas, Washington with Ward off the bench.

I thought Washington did well against the Germans so fancy him to start with Dallas and either Laffs of Magennis
