No Cathcart?

Jamie Ward? I like Jamie but he hasn't played since S Korea? Disappointed no Smyth or Whyte, they could have played v Israel maybe. Good to see Michael Smith and Grigg back.

BBC excelling themselves as usual - McLaughlin at Millwall (which is correct for Conor) but then C. McLaughlin at Oldham (if they mean Ryan, didn't he move to Blackool?) and Jonny Evans at West Brom

My initial reaction is good squad, but disappointed about Smyth & Whyte not being in it. However, I would not be surprised to see either, or both, brought in for Israel.

U21s have a difficult game away to Spain on the same night as the Israel game. Still an outside chance of qualifying. No harm in getting 90 mins against that level of opposition.

Solid squad, really picks itself though......

Does it? Two guys about to turn 39, one who doesn't have a club. The most experienced keeper hasn't played a club League game since April 2017, others (Ward, McLoughlin) were rarely seen in the latter half of last season. Even the skipper's out of favor at Saints...

MON is weighing the huge experience/ 'muscle memory' of most of those above against the potential of the u-21 guys. Most or all of Smyth, Whyte, Thompson, Lavery etc. should be back at some point next year. But McAuley especially is a big risk

If Hughes plays, it'll be his 22nd successive season of senior international football. Unbelievable really

Maybe Michael is leaving Smyth (esp) and Whyte at their clubs to allow them to impress their manager*? It's a crucial time of the season and both clubs have had dreadful starts.

* - That's if McClaren is still at QPR by the time the game comes round...:o
