Kosovo are now top. IF they qualify, does the extra play-off spot to becomes Champions of the fake Group D then go to Belarus? Could four from our group all qualify?

The play offs are all too speculative right now, wait until after the October games. The Nations League play off places will become a bit clearer once teams start to qualify automatically from the groups we're dealing with now. We don't have to worry about Belarus though.

The League D playoffs are currently between Georgia, Macedonia, Kosovo & Belarus.

If Kosovo qualify automatically then Luxembourg replace them in the League D playoffs.

Aye, I know, but Belarus will have a play off (which won't affect us unless they throw the towel in against the Germans and Dutch due to it, unlikely as they are to get any points off them anyway). Hopefully we will get a play off too. Unless we don't need one obviously

Yes but it could get to the point where we bate Belaruskies home and away and finish above them and they qualify and we don't. It really can happen, but let's focus on winning our last four games so there can be no doubt.

Yip.

Proof, if you need it, that linking qualification to the Nation's League is mental.

Am watching Serbia v Portugal, looks about 30 Portuguese fans there. We had about 300, would have been more but it was then announced that the match would be behind closed doors.

The most important thing was the Portugal win, hopefully they now go on and qualify automatically along with Ukraine.

Been looking as things stand and trying to understand the playoff rules. So this could be completely wrong. This is also using this PDF of nations league rankings: https://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/competitions/General/02/58/31/76/2583176_DOWNLOAD.pdf

All of this assumes we drop to 3rd behind Germany and Netherlands

- 3 Group A winners are auto qualifying, leaving Switzerland.

- After that the only team from League A not currently in an automatic spot is Iceland. So 2 spots left for playoff in League A

- Bosnia are next, they are not in automatic but won our Nations League group so will not move up to League A playoffs according to Uefa rules.

- Next teams currently not qualifying are Wales, Czech Republic. None of them won their group so move up to League A playoff. Completing it. (Switzerland, Iceland, Wales, Czech Republic)

- That leaves Slovakia and NI in League B. With Bulgaria moving up to League B playoffs.

- So League B playoff would be Bosnia, Slovakia, NI and Bulgaria.

- 1st plays 4th, 2nd plays 3rd in single leg with higher ranked hosting... Which would give Bosnia v Bulgaria and Slovakia v NI

This could be completely wrong but is my understanding. Secondly this can obviously change a lot with how the qualifiers play out.

There are a lot of permutations still possible. Interestingly if you swapped Switzerland and ROI positions in their groups right now I think it would be Us away to Dublin for a playoff.

The nicest outcome would be swap Czech Republic for Kosovo and Switzerland for ROI. That would currently give us a home semi final against Israel.

I could go on with permutations but in short I think it would be simpler to beat Germany and Netherlands

The easiest way to look at the playoffs from a Northern Ireland perspective is if 16 of the 20 qualifiers are among the 23 countries above NI in the Nations League ranking then a playoff is guaranteed.  There are unlikely scenarios where a playoff could be secured with fewer than 16 qualifying.

A Sweden win v Norway today would help.

The Nations League rankings are here

https://www.uefa.com/uefanationsleague/news/newsid=2601504.html

I believe a playoff place is highly likely.  Portugal's win last night helped greatly as that group looks done and dusted.

The following look almost certain to qualify England, Ukraine, Portugal , Netherlands, Germany (no need for a playoff if they don't), 2 of Den,Swiss,RoI, Croatia, Spain, Poland, 2 of Fra,Tur,Ice, Belgium, Russia, Italy.  If 15 qualifiers come from that group then only one of the following is needed

Czechs to take out Kosovo

Slovakia or Wales to make it ahead of Hungary

Sweden to edge out Norway/Romania

Austria to make it ahead of Slovenia/Israel

Bosnia to catch Finland

Could you qualify without scoring?

Lose all your NL games in one of the top two leagues without scoring.

Lose all the Euro qualifiers without scoring.

Get into the NL play offs because all the teams who really qualified for the NL play offs qualified through Euro qualifying and their play off places filtered down.

Draw both play off games 0 0 but win both on penalties?
